The Christian Mama’s Guide to Having a Baby ~ Giveaway

Christian Mama's Guide to Having a Baby

Erin MacPherson is one funny lady! Her candid Christian approach to pregnancy is a great way to learn about the upcoming 9 months. With chapter titles like “The Dreaded Morning Sickness: How to Deal with Morning, Noon and Night Sickness” and “Feeding Frenzy: How to eat (er, Devour) for Two” you know you are in for a good time.  After looking through all the chapters I can’t think of any thing she left out.

Erin is successfully able to tell you what the baby will really need as opposed to what you think you will need. I love that she breaks it down even farther into things you can consider buying used as opposed to ones you should never buy used like a car seat or a crib mattress.  Chapter 11 is pretty funny since it’s The Christian Daddy’s Guide: What Dads-to-Be Need to know about Pregnancy. She has 4 dads who agreed to be panelists give their views on pregnancy. The panelists include such sound advice as “Making a giant batch of carnitas so your wife doesn’t have to cook all week may seem like a sweet idea, but it will only result in your eating carnitas for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week.” Hee Hee my husband tried something simliar for me so it made me smile to read that. Guess what? It didn’t work so good for my husband either.

As a mother who couldn’t breast feed, I appreciate the section on formula feeding. I agonized over the decision to start my first on formula but 8 hours of pumping in one 24 hour period and only getting 2 oz of milk was enough for me to realize that I couldn’t keep up. I’m not going to get into the theories and the beliefs but I do appreciate when some one realizes that it’s a personal decision and there are many reasons why someone doesn’t breastfeed.

I also love that while it’s titled The Christian Mama’s Guide to Having a Baby it doesn’t come off as preachy, cheesy or geared toward any denomination in particular. I wouldn’t hesitate to give this book to any of my friends. I’m excited that while I personally am done having babies I have many friends in the last three weeks who have announced their pregnancies. I know what I’ll be giving to the expecting mothers in my life The Christian Mama’s Guide to Having a Baby!

Starless Sky ~ Review

Starless Sky was written by author Paige Agnew when she was only 15!

The story starts with a young girl Kahlen who has just lost her best friend to a car accident. She is learning to deal with the emotions of loss and grief far to young. Through the course of the story she meets, becomes friends with and eventually falls in love with Kennley. Paige does a wonderful job of combining the two stories into one that keeps you wanting to continue with the story.

If you go to Paige’s website it says “In the midst of loss there is life; a sentiment Kahlen is not quick to accept” The wisdom of that simple statement goes far beyond Paige’s years. It’s one that many people struggle with and one that I’ve had personal experience with. Kahlen doesn’t like to see the pity and sorrow in people’s eyes as they look at her after her friends death. She works her way through that and finally comes to accept that bad things happen in life and that you have to make the best out of every situation you can.

I really enjoyed Starless Sky. Paige nailed the high school experience in a way that a lot of young adult books can’t. The conversations are natural and leave you wanting to learn more about the characters. She was able to explore the emotions and keep the story line moving along at the same time. Starless Sky would be a great book for someone who is struggling with the grief process. Even though it’s different for everyone it might help a teenager begin to explore the situation they are experiencing. I am very impressed with Paige Agnews first novel and am looking forward to reading her second novel Seven soon.

I received a review copy of Starless Sky. This did not influence my opinion in any way.

The Art of Joy ~ Review

Joy from Creative Mamma is so incredibly talented! I love her drawings. All of the art work in her Etsy store is her own design. Joy taught elementary school for 9 years and now keeps herself busy being a mom and working at her local library. At night she loves to “doodle and creating vector art”.

Her blog is full of fun free printables so you can head over there and get a taste of her art work for free.

Visit her Etsy store for fun personalized one of a kind invitations, gift certificates, baby announcements and calendars! They are all in PDF format so within 24 hours of your purchase you can print them off and use them. No waiting for them to come in the mail.

Joy was going to participate in the Handmade with Love Blog Hop February 2nd to 6th. Unfortunately the due date for her baby has come and gone with no baby yet. She’s going to be pretty busy in the coming weeks so I’ve decided to just post her information and products as a great big congratulations to her. Congratulations Joy and I hope you have time to do some more doodling soon!
